KXAN News Anchor quits without notice

Just two days after being let go by KXAN, former news anchor Sarah Eckhardt is already speaking out about what happened.

In an interview with the Austin American-Statesman, Eckhardt said she was “blindsided” by the decision to let her go, which came just two weeks after she gave birth to her first child.

“It was a complete surprise,” Eckhardt said. “I had no idea that was coming.”

Eckhardt, who had been with KXAN since 2013, anchored the station’s 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts. She said she was told by station management that they were going in a “different direction” with the anchor desk.

KXAN has not yet announced who will replace Eckhardt on the evening newscasts.
