First, the coronavirus pandemic has claimed the lives of over two million people worldwide. The United States has the most confirmed cases of any country, with over half a million. The impeachment trial of President Donald Trump is ongoing, and the latest development is that former National Security Advisor John Bolton has agreed to testify. Lastly, a severe winter storm is making its way across the United States, bringing heavy snow and high winds.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake rocked Southern California on Thursday morning, the largest temblor to hit the region in 20 years.
The quake struck at 10:33 a.m. about 10 miles from Ridgecrest, a city of about 28,000 people northeast of Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage and no tsunami warnings were issued.
The temblor was felt as far away as Las Vegas and Mexico, and caused buildings to sway in Los Angeles and San Diego. It also knocked out power to tens of thousands of people in Kern County, where Ridgecrest is located, according to Southern California Edison.
USGS seismologist Paul Caruso said aftershocks are expected in the coming days and weeks and that some could be nearly as large as the initial quake.

The FDA has approved a new depression drug that is being touted as a breakthrough treatment. The drug, called esketamine, is a nasal spray that will be used in conjunction with an oral antidepressant. The drug will only be available through a restricted program due to these side effects and will only be given to patients who have failed to respond to two other antidepressants.

A local story that made headlines today was the massive fire that broke out at the city’s dump. The fire started around 3:00pm and took hours for firefighters to put out. No one was injured, but the fire caused significant damage to the dump.
