Early life and career

Roger Ailes was born on May 15, 1940 in Warren, Ohio, the son of Donna Marie (née née Sulzer; July 16, 1915 – May 10, 2017) and Robert Eugene Ailes (July 8, 1902 – May 30, 1989). He quit after one semester and readily admitted that he “wasn’t really ready for college”.[9] In 1965, he started working as a production assistant on The Mike Douglas Show when it came to Cleveland on its national tour. After filling in briefly for host Lou Gordon while he was on vacation,[10][11] Ailes officially replaced Gordon as co-host of the show’s Cleveland edition from 1967 to 1969 whereupon he moved back to New York as associate producer for the show.[12][13]

Rupert Murdoch

Rupert Murdoch is an Australian-American media mogul. He is the co-chairman and CEO of 21st Century Fox, and the founder, chairman, and CEO of the Fox News Channel. Murdoch has also been a published author and a film producer.

Early life and career

Rupert Murdoch was born in Melbourne, Australia, on March 11, 1931. His father, Keith Murdoch, was a prominent newspaperman and his mother, Elisabeth Joy Greene, was of Irish Catholic descent. Rupert attended Oxford University. In 1953 he inherited two newspapers that his father had bought in 1952, and he quickly turned them both into successful enterprises. In the 1960s Murdoch expanded his holdings by buying other papers and launching a new weekly magazine.

Murdoch’s newspapers were known for their conservative slant, and this editorial stance led to some controversy in the 1970s when Murdoch attempted to enter the British market. He was eventually able to buy several papers there, but not without a great deal of public outcry.

In the 1980s Murdoch turned his attention to the United States, where he bought the losing New York Post and turned it into a tabloid success. He also bought several television stations and launched the Fox Broadcasting Company in 1986. The Fox network quickly rose to become one of the top-rated networks on television.

Murdoch’s media empire continued to grow in the 1990s as he added more newspapers and television stations to his holdings. He also launched a number of successful cable television channels, including Fox News Channel and FX. In 2007 Murdoch’s News Corporation made an unsuccessful bid to buy the entire satellite broadcaster BSkyB.
