Tyrus, born George Murdoch, is an American cable television personality, political commentator, professional wrestler and mixed martial artist. He is perhaps best known for his time in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) under the name Tyrus and as a commentator on The Greg Gutfeld Show and Fox News Specialists.

Early Life and Education

Tyrus was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was raised by a single mother and grandparents. Tyrus dropped out of high school in the 9th grade, but he later obtained his GED. He then attended junior college on a football scholarship.

Career

Tyrus was born in Georgia but raised outside of Sacramento, California. He began his professional wrestling career in 2006. In 2010, he signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned to their developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). He was promoted to the main roster in 2012 and became a one-time Intercontinental Champion, two-time United States Champion, and one-time Tag Team Champion with Big E.

Personal Life

Tyrus was born in Georgia but raised in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He is the third of four siblings. His mother is a schoolteacher and his father is a preacher. Tyrus has said that he was a “momma’s boy” who was raised with strong Christian values. He played football and basketball in high school and college. After college, he worked as a substitute teacher and a counselor at a group home for troubled teenagers.
